| White opal is the most commonly seen type, especially in the United States. White opal has colored flashes that appear over top of a base that is white. White opal varies in quality like every other kind of opal but, on the average, is less expensive than black or boulder opal. There are, however, some truly stunning, gem quality white opals. Most white opal comes from Coober Pedy in South Australia. There will be white opals from different areas in Australia appearing on this page. There is a fair amount of white opal that is found in Lightning Ridge along with the more famous black opal. Since I buy most of my rough opal from Lightning Ridge, the majority of white opal on this page is from that area as well. Gray opal will be shown on this page along with the white opal. |
